Communicate that using Best Foods Mayo with any meal leftovers or ingredients can create a delicious snack or meal
Invite the consumer to try one of the samples that has been prepared. (This will require communication between yourselves and the chefs, depending on foot traffic as to what samples are ready for sampling).
Also invite the consumer to take a recipe leaflet, with some inspiration ideas using leftovers and Best Foods mayo. We have some fantastic recipes cards that utilise the top leftover ingredients as well as an “Eat me First” fridge shelf label, where you place leftovers and ingredients that need to be eaten or are approaching best before dates.

Key Messages On Food Waste
- Primary causes of food waste are over-purchasing, over-cooking and not eating our leftovers due to lack of inspiration
- Average kiwi family throws away 3 shopping trolleys worth of food every year
- Kiwi households waste more food than supermarkets, restaurants and the hospitality sector combined
Christmas Day Tips & Tricks (to help reduce food waste)
- Write a shopping list, planning is key
Resist the urge to overbuy, check what’s already in the cupboard
- Be Realistic with portions
Think about how many people you are cooking for and how much they will likely eat
- Use By vs Best Before
Aim to purchase food that has a use by date that isn’t too soon or opt for best before when you can. Best Before doesn’t mean it has to be eaten by that date – use by refers to food safety while best before is an indication of the food’s quality
- Don’t get overwhelmed
Avoid panic buying by scheduling a time to shop in advance to reduce it being a mad rush. Take a step back and ask yourself “do I really need this?’
- Treat Christmas as a normal day
Treat it as any other day!
Best Foods Leftovers Hacks
- Go Buffet Style
Let guests choose what they please, any leftovers can go in the freezer or be repurposed for another dish in the week
- Cooking Hack
Purchase a chicken that’s smaller than you think you’ll need and cook it upside down to avoid the meat drying
- Frozen Fruit For the Win
Preparing a classic pavlova or dessert with berries? Go frozen! This way you can place the leftovers back in the freezer for a future date
- Go Small
Buy things like smoked salmon in small individual packages. Whatever doesn’t get used can go in the freezer, or you can whip up a salmon and egg scramble for breakfast
- Avoid The Bags
When it comes to the veges, avoid purchasing bags and instead select them individually
- Love Your Leftovers
For your leftovers, there are plenty of simple and delicious recipes that you can try to make the most of these ingredients without sending them to the bin
